Aeron

DHV 2
AFNOR PERFORMANCE

Development Story:

The AERON is a member of the RADON family. We were originally developing a class 2-3 glider. During the progress, we made several protos with different aspect ratios and cells. So there was one which had much less cells, less lines, and the safety potential of a class 2 model. Although the Computer predicted a very high performance of the new wing, we could not believe it until it was proven by a practical test. The Computer was right: same hands off speed glide and even better high speed glide compared to the originally, much more complex 2-3 prototype!

With further improvements to the wing's rigidity and the application of slightly improved airfoils and cell width, the final AERON is performing better than our expectations for the new 2-3 glider.

Our reference glider was an ARGON C with thin. comp. lines. It was our goal for the 2-3 development to make a glider with normal, covered lines that had the perf. of the ARGON C. In the end we managed to develop a class 2 glider that is even better!

The takeoff of the AERON is even simpler than that of the ARGON. The AERON has small intakes all across the middle of the wingspan. We also tried closed cells during development. They did not improve performance or safety, they just effected a worse inflation at takeoff. It seems that a small intake at the right position doesn't cost any performance.

2 Souls in one Wing:

Our testpilots used all their skills and experience to give the AERON a very performance oriented, dynamic and balanced handling. The brake pressure is just right, gives you the perfect feedback. In turns the AERON stays very neutral: it is easy to turn very tight and flat. It is a pleasure to climb in weak thermals. In strong thermals you will enjoy the new airfoils stability: the glider doesn't drop behind the pilot on entering a thermal and does not lose performance in turbulence. The AERON is not nervous: this wing is full of energy, but still relaxing!

Immediately after the DHV testflights have been done, Peter Simonics und Szilard Forgo were able to fly a new FAI world record with the first serial AERONs: they flew together 281 km to a declared goal! It was the first time in paragliding history, that a DHV certified wing was able to fly further than anyone before. Specially in those very windy and turbulent conditions, the AERON showed it's true potential: it is a racing machine which can take you further to new limits, but it also offers you the safety and confidence of a safe DHV 2 wing.

Special Technical Details:

AERON riser at normal speed speeded up

It was our goal to expand the flyable speedrange to a higher level. To keep the perfect tension of the brake line in every position of the speedsystem, the AERON has a new brake line transition system (BTS). The brake pulley is moving up by accelerating the glider. So it is possible to keep the brake line tight in normal flight to have the best feeling and feedback and still the trailing edge is clean and the glider very performant and fast by pushing the speedsystem.
